21 May - Afro-Colombian Day in Colombia
Afro-Colombian Day, which commemorates the day when the government of José Hilario López decreed the abolition of slavery in Colombia.
Colombia is a country where the colors are as varied as the customs of its people, that is why this celebration includes us all and should serve as a pretext to reduce the actions of indifference and discrimination in our environments.
May 21st is celebrated as the National Day of Afro-Colombianity, this festivity was declared by the Congress of the Republic from Law 725 of 2001, where May 21st was established as the National Day of Afro-Colombianity, with the purpose of paying tribute to the Afro-Colombian population and make this day an opportunity and cultural recognition in the country.
