The National Epilepsy Day has been celebrated in Spain every May 24 since 2006, with the aim of making visible all the people who suffer from this disease and to gather support from all sectors of society.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are 50 million people with epilepsy in the world and three quarters of them do not receive the treatment they need. And a quarter of seizures go unnoticed by the patient or family.
According to the Epiberia 2013 study, in Spain it affects around 700,000 people.
However, it continues to be an unknown and stigmatizing disease. And it affects the quality of life of patients, and leads to discrimination at work and school.
