In Argentina, since 2007, through the enactment of Law 26,199, April 24 has been declared a day of action for tolerance and respect among peoples in commemoration of the genocide suffered by the Armenian people in 1915.
The Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on December 9, 1948, defines genocide as "any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group". Genocidal practices seek not only physical extermination but also extermination through all the manifestations that characterize the persecuted group.
