The changes made to the rural environment over the past century have contributed to certain benefits for human welfare and economic development, but they have also led to serious degradation of resources and ecosystems, severe cultural erosion and a loss of fundamental values that compromise the identity and opportunities of our future generations.
First celebrated in Argentina last century and adopted by several countries, Field Day (Día Mundial del Campo) emphasizes the importance of the rural environment for the social, environmental and economic well-being of every nation. It then spread to other countries in the region and moved to other continents, becoming a World Day.
