This date was established in honor of the outstanding German botanist, naturalist and geographer Augusto Weberbauer who studied, analyzed, described and visited the Peruvian fauna. The event was made official by Law 19364 and was published in the Official Gazette 'El Peruano' on April 18, 1972.
