The Argentine-Brazilian Friendship Day is a binational commemoration celebrated in Argentina and Brazil as a consequence of the signing of the Copacabana Act , on March 16 , 2004. It was established by the Argentine Republic through decree No. 688/2004 and by the Federative Republic of Brazil through a decree of the National Executive Power. This commemorative date was celebrated for the first time on November 30, 2004.
It is celebrated on November 30 of each year, in commemoration of the meeting held that day in 1985 between then-presidents Raúl Alfonsín and José Sarney in the Brazilian city of Foz de Iguazú. At this meeting, the Declaration of Iguazú was signed , which gave rise to the regional integration process that would lead years later to the creation of Mercosur.
