Argentina has two dates dedicated to political scientists: one adopted in 2007 by Law 13470 is September 23, called "National Day of the Political Scientist," in memory of Mariano Moreno (1778-1811), on the anniversary of his birth, considered one of the founders of the Argentine national state, the first person to think about political activity in the country. The second date with an identical designation corresponds to November 29, in memory of the Argentine political scientist Guillermo O'Donnell (1936-2011), on the anniversary of his death, established by Law No. 27.131 of 2015.
Guillermo Alberto O'Donnell Ure (February 24, 1936 – November 29, 2011) was a prominent Argentine political scientist who specialized in comparative politics and Latin American politics. He spent most of his career working in Argentina and the United States, and who made lasting contributions to theorizing on authoritarianism and democratization, democracy and the state, and the politics of Latin America.
