The Geneva Restoration is the restoration of the Republic of Geneva, on December 31, 1813, after the departure of the Napoleonic troops. It is commemorated by a festival celebrated in Geneva every December 31.
After having kept its independence until 1798, Geneva was annexed by France and became the capital of the department of Geneva. At the time of the defeat of the Napoleonic army, Geneva was liberated on December 30, 1813 by the Austrian troops of Ferdinand von Bubna und Littitz, and the next day, after the definitive withdrawal of the prefect Guillaume Capelle, a reactionary government led by the former syndic Ami Lullin proclaimed the restoration of the Old Regime Republic.
