On July 16 of each year in Bolivia, the Revolution of Peace is commemorated, carried out on the same date in 1809. That day, the insurgents rose up against Spanish rule.
The previous days, Pedro Domingo Murillo met clandestinely with other revolutionaries, inspired by the emancipatory seed that had been sown by the French Revolution, the American independence and the siege of La Paz led by Túpac Katari in 1781; to organize what would be the uprising of July 16 and the proclamation of his freedom.
That day the imperial authority was ignored and they gave way to the declaration of independence, with the help of a large group of people from various places in what is now Bolivia.
The action began when the sun began to hide in the middle of the procession of the Virgen del Carmen. The revolutionaries took the barracks from the Spaniards seizing their weapons, while the bells of the Plaza de Armas rang.
