The purpose of this initiative is to establish mechanisms for social culturalization regarding the disease called Myasthenia Gravis, and those who suffer from it. Myasthenia Gravis is an autoimmune disease characterized by fluctuating muscle weakness and fatigue of different muscle groups. The ocular, facial and bulbar muscles are the most frequently affected by the disease. Patients with Myasthenia Gravis manifest worsening muscle weakness, intercurrent infections, fever, and physical or emotional exhaustion. Respiratory infection (bacterial or viral) is the most common cause of provocation. The presence of antibodies against acetylcholine receptors in a patient with clinical manifestations compatible with Myasthenia Gravis confirms the diagnosis. The treatment of this entity is controversial and must be individualized, since there is no uniform therapeutic regimen for all patients. Available treatments include anticholinesterase drugs, corticosteroids, plasmapheresis, immunoglobulin, immunosuppressants, and thymectomy.
