Cuban Builder's Day is celebrated every December 5 as proposed by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.
This day was proposed by Fidel in 1972 on the occasion of the III Congress of Builders and in homage to comrade Armando Mestre Martínez. Moncada assailant and Granma expeditionary and martyr of the sector.
Although it was known later that Mestre did not fall precisely on the 5th in "Alegría de Pío" but was assassinated on the 6th, the tribute to the builders continued to be celebrated that day.
