High parades in colors, dances and music. The procession of the patron saint of the State of Lara has taken place since 1856. It starts from the Santa Rosa de Barquisimeto temple to the cathedral. A statue in effigy of the saint is then deposited and remains on place until Pâques before returning to its place of origin.
The people of Barquisimeto walk in the procession of the Divine Pastor, which begins in Barquisimeto on January 14, each year millions of people walk a distance of 9.5 kilometers.
The so called Divina Pastora is a Marian invocation of the Catholic Church. Her image has its main center of veneration in the Sanctuary of Santa Rosa located in the parish of Santa Rosa de Barquisimeto, in Venezuela. Every January 14 a multitudinous Marian pilgrimage is celebrated, which is considered the third largest in the world, only surpassed by the one made with the Virgin of Guadalupe (Mexico) and the Virgin of Fatima (Portugal).
