Lapland National Day
Lapland National Day is held on February 6. This event in the first decade of the month February is annual.
Lapland is a geographical region of Northern Europe. It is bordered on the north by the Arctic Ocean, on the west by the Norwegian Sea, and on the east by the Barents Sea. It is the northernmost sparsely populated province of Finland, which borders Sweden, Norway and Russia.
Today is celebrated "sámi álbmotbeaivi", better known (still improperly) as "Lapland National Day".
The reason for celebrating their national day today derives from a Sami congress that took place on this date in 1917. In 1992 it was decided that this date would become their National Day, and since then this "Day of" has gained in popularity.
