International Credit Union Day (ICU Day) has been celebrated on the third Thursday of October since 1948. 2018 marks the 70th anniversary of its celebration. (The 2018 ICU Day theme is Find Your Platinum Lining ). The day is recognized to reflect upon the credit union movement’s history, celebrate its spirit and principles, its unique culture of trust and responsibility, and to promote its achievements. It is a day to honor those who have dedicated their lives to the movement, recognize the hard work of those working in the credit union industry and show members our appreciation.
The ultimate goal is to raise global awareness about the great work that credit unions and other financial cooperatives are doing around the world and provide every member the opportunity to get more involved. Credit unions and associations throughout the world celebrate the day with fundraisers, open houses, contests, picnics and parades. Annual ICU Day festivities give members of these organizations the opportunity to share experiences, volunteer in the community, add new members, actively participate in further growth of the global credit union movement.
The U.S. Credit Union National Association (CUNA) offers a variety of promotional resources to help credit unions prepare for and celebrate ICU Day.
There are different celebration ideas: Plan a Festive Week in Your Credit Union; Product and Service Promotions; Focus on Education; Focus on Your Credit Union Difference; Community Projects. People are encouraged to share photos, events, experiences as well as ICU Day logos and posters on social media using #ICUDay.
We congratulate credit unions all over the world for their strong positive impact on economy and society, their significant contribution to personal prosperity and well-being, and their influential role in the economic and business development.
We invite you to join the celebration and also to consider the benefits of membership in credit unions. Very often it offers amazing careers and business opportunities and helps build strong foundations for financial well-being.
