Día del Amigo in Paraguay

This international celebration originated in country more than 60 years ago with the idea of Dr. Ramón Artemio Bracho. According to the words of the protagonist himself, it all began on June 20, 1958, when he wondered how it was possible that such a beautiful feeling as friendship did not have its own celebration date. That same day he suggested the idea to his wife to reverse the situation.

That is how Dr. Bracho, together with his wife and other friends, founded the World Friendship Crusade in Puerto Pinasco, in the department of Presidente Hayes. With the motto: "For a better and more humane world", this civil society organization has been campaigning since then in favor of the value and enhancement of friendship, promoting the culture of peace.

"The first celebration took place under the name of Friendship Week from July 21 to 27, 1958, with an incredible, sensational, wonderful success," wrote Dr. Bracho himself in the official blog of the Friendship Crusade, telling the story of this commemorative day. After numerous efforts by Mr. Artemio and the Crusade group, the Paraguayan State established, in 1964 by resolution No. 242 of the Ministry of Education and Science, July 30 as Friendship Day nationwide.
