Human relations depend on them to establish their culture, traditions and to develop social connections with others. The Day of the Friend aims to encourage the most sincere and selfless bonds of human relationships: friends.
Friend's Day is preceded by the World Friendship Crusade held in Paraguay on June 20, 1958.
This civil organization intended to promote the culture of peace, exalt the need for sincere friendship between men as a way to maintain harmony between them.
In other Latin American countries it is celebrated on different dates. In Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay, the most widespread proposal is that of the day that human beings landed on the Moon (July 20, 1969). At least Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Mexico, and Ecuador celebrate Friendship Day on February 14.
In Peru, at the initiative of a group of Peruvians who traveled to Argentina in 2004 and saw the Friend's Day celebrations in that country and seeking to promote Peruvian values of true friendship, a social movement was created in early April 2009 in favor of institutionalizing "Friend's Day" in Peru. The Day of the Friend is celebrated in Peru from 2009 on the first Saturday of July from an initiative of the Backus and Johnston brewery company.
