On the night of 12 to 13 January, the Amazigh people worldwide celebrated the Amazigh New Year. The Amazigh calendar is based on seasons and agriculture. And the counting started when the Amazigh king Chiochink defeated the Roman emperor/Egyptian pharaoh Ramses III of Egypt, which was more 2972 years ago. A special dish is prepared. Called ‘tagola’, made of wheat and honey.
The Amazigh calendar is directly derived from the Julian calendar, which was used in Europe before the Gregorian one. It was used in North Africa to regulate the agricultural seasons.
