Africa Day was decreed with the aim of raising awareness of the needs that continue to face all the countries of the African continent. Likewise, to vindicate all the socioeconomic advances they have achieved, including their liberation from colonialism.
The origin of this celebration has its bases since the Congress of African States was held for the first time in 1958. Representatives from several countries gathered there. At that meeting, the firm determination of these peoples to free themselves from foreign colonization was demonstrated.
At this Conference, the celebration of an African Freedom Day was proposed and, from that moment on, meetings continued to be held between the different heads of state of the African Continent, where the so-called Organization for African Unity was born on May 25, 1963, and which would later be changed to Africa Day.
