On July 10, 2025, Ukraine celebrated the Day of Remembrance of the Fallen Medic for the first time.
This is an initiative launched this year by the Order of St. Panteleimon honors team. Honor of the Medical Profession to honor the memory of medical professionals who died during a full-scale war.
Doctors at the front and near-front areas who saved our soldiers under fire. Doctors in the rear who worked during alarms, in operating rooms without light, in bomb shelters. They fought for the lives of Ukrainians day and night. However, unfortunately, they died themselves. There are hundreds of such medical workers.
According to the Order of St. Panteleimon, Russia killed at least half a thousand Ukrainian medical professionals during the 3 years of the Great War. These are doctors, nurses and brothers, junior medical workers, combat medics. They became the enemy's target on the battlefield, in stabilization centers, in operating rooms and offices, on the street, at home, on the way to work.
To keep the memory of each of them alive, the Order of St. Panteleimon is implementing the Light of Memory project. Within its framework, with the participation of the National Scientific Medical Library of Ukraine and regional partners, information is collected about the deceased medical workers.
