The Bundesfeier am Rhein in Basel is an important event that is celebrated annually on July 31 to mark Swiss National Day on August 1. This holiday commemorates the Federal Charter of 1291, which is regarded as the founding document of Switzerland.
The celebrations traditionally begin on the evening of July 31 and continue into the early hours of August 1. The festival starts at 17:00 and offers a variety of stalls, live music and entertainment along the banks of the Rhine.
A highlight of the evening is the impressive fireworks display at 23:00, which is set off from two ships on the Rhine. This spectacular event lights up the night sky and attracts visitors from all over the world.
On August 1, visitors to the Bruderholz can experience an impressive light and water show at 10:15 pm, which brings the festivities to a fitting close.
Around 100 stalls offer a wide selection of food and drink, creating a festive atmosphere. The event is family-friendly and also includes special programs for children, such as lantern parades, which are particularly popular with younger guests.
