Kramermarkt Oldenburg

The Oldenburg Kramermarkt is an annual folk festival in Oldenburg, which is celebrated in the region as the “fifth season”. The festival grounds are centrally located in Oldenburg and are easily accessible. With over one million visitors, it is one of the largest folk festivals in north-west Germany. On the grounds around the Weser-Ems-Hallen, you can expect around 250 stalls and rides that provide the best entertainment. Whether it's thrilling rides, impressive fireworks or cheerful celebrations - the traditional Kramermarkt promises an unforgettable experience!

In addition to classic food stalls, the Kramermarkt also offers numerous stalls with regional and international specialties. In addition to the colorful hustle and bustle, there are regular cultural events such as concerts, stage programs and traditional parades.

The origins of the Kramermarkt go back to Count Anton Günther von Oldenburg (1583-1667), who issued a decree in 1608 that established the market. Originally, the market took place for five days on the town hall square and was used to trade harvests. The market participants, mostly grocers and traveling merchants, were known as “Krahmer-Marckt”.

In the early 19th century, the market was supplemented by showmen and the first rides, such as merry-go-rounds. In 1877, the market was reorganized due to the large number of stalls, and in 1962 it was moved to the open-air grounds of the Weser-Ems-Halle to provide more space.

Today, the Kramermarkt is one of the most important folk festivals in Germany, attracting around 1.5 million visitors to the 90,000 square meter site.
