The Kinderzeche in Dinkelsbühl is a historical children's and local festival that dates back to a school festival first mentioned in documents in the 17th century. The festival, which has been staged since 1897, re-enacts a local legend according to which children from Dinkelsbühl saved the town from the Swedes during the Thirty Years' War.
The festival takes place annually on the weekends around the third Monday in July and comprises a total of seven performances. Both Sundays and Monday are followed by a parade in which historical groups and school classes take part. On Tuesday, the children receive the so-called "Dinkelsbühler Kinderzech-Gucke", a bag filled with sweets, as a reminder of the festival's origins as a children's festival. Historical children's and round dances are also performed during the festival.
