The Drachenstich in Furth im Wald is Germany's oldest folk festival with a tradition of over 500 years. Against the historical backdrop of the Hussite Wars, an ancient legend comes to life: the legend of the dragon and the oldest myth of mankind - the fight of good against evil! This impressive spectacle takes place every year in August. In the arena on Further Stadtplatz, spectators experience an elaborate production full of drama and mysticism, in which 350 amateur actors embark on a journey back in time to the Middle Ages. It is an unforgettable experience for anyone interested in history and culture.
Dragon Sting Play: The main event is the play in which the battle between the knight George and the dragon is staged. The dramatic performance attracts thousands of spectators. Before the play, there is a colorful procession in which a giant dragon is carried through the streets. This symbolizes the start of the festival.
Historical market: On the market square there is a medieval market with craftsmen, traders and jugglers. Here visitors can buy traditional products and enjoy the atmosphere of times gone by.
Parade: A large parade with historical costumes, music and dancing takes place. Local clubs and groups are presented here.
Fireworks: The festival ends with a spectacular fireworks display that lights up the sky over Furth im Wald.
All in all, the Drachenstich is a unique experience that combines tradition, history and community.
