The Mendelssohn Festival is an integral part of Leipzig's musical landscape. In close cooperation between the Mendelssohn House Leipzig and the Gewandhaus zu Leipzig, an exquisite festival program is created every year around the anniversary of the death of the composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy on 4 November. This includes symphony concerts, chamber music, guided tours and discussion formats. The repertoire reflects the impressive diversity of Mendelssohn's oeuvre and commemorates the composer, who is inextricably linked to Leipzig's musical tradition. As Gewandhauskapellmeister and founder of the first German music conservatory, Mendelssohn not only shaped the musical culture of the city of Leipzig, but also the sound tradition of the Gewandhaus Orchestra. His musical works have been an integral part of the orchestra's repertoire ever since. The Mendelssohn Festival offers a varied program for music lovers.
