Erfurt's Christmas market is one of the largest and most beautiful in the whole of Germany and takes place in the picturesque medieval old town on the cathedral square. Every year, the market attracts around two million visitors. The history of Erfurt, which is over 1,280 years old, is reflected in the well-preserved old quarters, which are characterized by magnificent patrician houses and lovingly restored half-timbered buildings.
The Cathedral Square, with its impressive ensemble of St. Mary's Cathedral and St. Severus Church, provides the perfect backdrop for the Christmas market.
Attractions: Visitors can expect traditional crafts and Thuringian specialties, as well as a huge Christmas tree with fairy lights, a nativity scene and almost life-size, hand-carved figures.
Offers: Over 200 wooden huts offer Christmas goods of all kinds, including regional favorites such as Thuringian bratwurst and Erfurter Schittchen, a stollen so delicious it's a registered trademark.
Erfurt's Christmas market is not only a feast for the senses, but also a living piece of history that puts visitors in the festive mood of the Advent season.
