The Saar Valley between the Saarland town of Merzig and the Rhineland-Palatinate town of Konz is one of the most charming regions in Germany. The third Sunday in May belongs to all cycling enthusiasts, as this is when the popular car-free Saar-Pedal Adventure Day takes place. Perfect for the car-free adventure day.
Between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., the roads between the Rhineland-Palatinate town of Konz and the Saarland town of Merzig are closed to all motor vehicle traffic, giving cyclists and skaters free rein to enjoy the 40-kilometre route all to themselves. Those who only want to cycle in one direction or in sections can switch to the train, which runs parallel to the route.
The towns along the route offer a varied program in their action zones, a colourful mix of games, sport, fun, music and, of course, food and drink.
