Large folk festival between the Rhine and the harbor, with front and high-altitude fireworks, fishermen's jousting, traders, fairground rides and an attractive festival program.
With up to 250,000 visitors, the Rhenish Fishermen's Festival is one of the largest folk festivals in southern Hesse. It takes place every year around the first weekend in August in Gernsheim am Rhein. The approximately 33,000 m² fairground is open for five days, preceded by a preliminary program with music events and various sports competitions. The festival was founded in 1949 as a gesture of reconciliation between sport and professional anglers. The highlights include the two firework displays and the traditional fishermen's stabbing.
