In addition to the first Advent candle, the second is lit on the second Sunday of Advent, the candle of peace as a symbol of the birth of Jesus. The two lights must not be opposite each other, but must burn next to each other. They are lit in a clockwise direction. The term Advent can be traced back to the Greek term "apparition" and meant arrival and presence in the Roman Empire. It could express the arrival of kings or emperors, but also the arrival of the deity in the temple. Christians adopted this word for the Advent season to express their relationship with Jesus Christ.
