Help us

March 1st is the international day of struggle and vindication of waste pickers, cartoneros, recyclers. The date commemorates the death of 10 recycling workers who were murdered inside the Universidad Libre de Barranquilla, Colombia, after being called to "receive recyclable material". The tragedy occurred in 1992 and was reported to the authorities thanks to a survivor who managed to escape.
The collection, sorting and commercialization of recyclable waste is a necessary service wherever there is human activity. This work is carried out all over the world by urban waste pickers, who are now part of the landscape of cities. Knowing the work they do allows us to understand why proper waste management has become a socio-environmental necessity.
