Today, January 28 is celebrated as Zulia Day (Día de La Zulianidad), to highlight the traditions, customs, values, identity and idiosyncrasy that characterize the inhabitants of this Venezuelan region.
With this date, it is remembered that it was on January 28, 1821, when Francisco Delgado, governor of the Province of Maracaibo, declared its independence from Spain, being the first autonomous decision taken by the people of Zulia, in defense of its identity.
On this day the work of different citizens, popular cultors, groups, businesses and places that are part of the people and the history of Zulia is recognized.
