Mediation is an alternative method of resolving conflicts, whose intrinsic purpose is to reach a comprehensive solution to a conflict between parties, thus avoiding going to court.
On January 21 is celebrated the European Day of Mediation, which coincides with the first legislative text on family mediation in Europe through Recommendation No. 98 approved by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on January 21, 1998.
Family mediation is an alternative and complementary system to the resolution of family conflicts. It takes the form of the intervention of a neutral and impartial professional in the processes of separation or divorce, facilitating the parents to reach agreements on the care of their children, property and other issues affecting the parental relationship.
European Mediation Day should be a cause for celebration and reflection. Conflict is inherent to the human condition. Conflict resolution should always be approached in a positive, dialogic way where all parties "win."
