B. B. King (real name Riley B. King; born September 16, 1925 near Itta Bena, Mississippi, USA - May 14, 2015) was an American blues guitarist, singer, and songwriter.
According to one critic, "B.B. King introduced us to a refined style of guitar soloing based on smooth bending and brilliant vibrato that influenced virtually every follower of electric guitar blues." One of his most famous compositions is "The Thrill Is Gone" (1969).
His critical acclaim and widespread popularity have made him the most respected, successful, recognizable bluesman not only in the USA, but around the world. In a 2011 Rolling Stone magazine poll, B.B. King was ranked #6 on their list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time".
