Newspaper deliverers, as well as the voceadores, over the years survived from their noble work, but they also faced injustices, low wages, and the struggle to live with dignity.
You probably remember -even with some nostalgia- that character on his bicycle delivering newspapers from door to door or the voceador standing on the corner of an avenue singing the news of the day. This profession now seems distant, even extinct in many cities around the world due to the growth and impact of the internet and social networks.
This special date was created by the Newspaper Association of America and is scheduled in conjunction with National Newspaper Week. International Newspaper Carrier Day is celebrated on the second Friday in October.
The main reason is to honor the companies dedicated to the distribution of information through the newspaper, as well as those in charge of bringing this means of communication to the door of every home, in every community; a profession that little by little has faded away.
