After President Michelle Bachelet announced the creation of a National Day of Popular Culture, which will be celebrated on September 15 from 2016 in honor of Margot Loyola, a teacher of merit, the National Folkloric Ballet "Bafona" gave a mass cueca lesson in the Plaza de la Constitución in Santiago.
The President emphasized that "this is a day that mixes joy with nostalgia, but we know that Margot would have been happy to have her birthday celebrated like this, with music and cuecas, with Bafona doing workshops and these couples dancing with their handkerchiefs. We hope that the next Fiestas Patrias will include dancing, in addition to cumbia, cachimbo, chocolate, sau sau and cueca chilota, because in this way we will be making a true tribute to this tenacious, patient woman, who by dint of her ability to listen, compiled an enormous heritage from her research".
