13 September - World Sepsis Day
Every five seconds a person dies of sepsis worldwide. In resource-rich countries with well-established health systems, sepsis affects between 500 and 700 people per 100,000 population, according to new data from the United States and Europe, more than the annual incidence of new cases of cancer. Most deaths from sepsis are preventable and can be reduced by 50% with appropriate measures.
Sepsis is a syndrome that can be fatal, causing organ dysfunction.
This syndrome is caused by minor infections such as urinary and lower airway infections, among others.
Likewise, this syndrome is multifactorial, so in order to prevent it, the participation of parents is required, so that when children present any infectious problem, they do not waste time and go immediately to the doctor.
World Sepsis Day has been celebrated on September 13 every year since 2012. On the occasion of World Sepsis Day on September 13, Global Sepsis Alliance urges all nations, with the active support of WHO, to coordinate and align infection control and prevention practices, as well as to reduce the incidence of antimicrobial resistance. While anyone can suffer from sepsis, newborns, children and the elderly are especially vulnerable.
