In addition to remembering the Battle of Boyaca, on August 7, National Army Day, Colombians also remember those who fight every day to protect them. For the benefit of vindicating and highlighting the importance of those actors who fought to achieve the triumph of Colombia in the Liberation Campaign of 1819, in addition to the services provided by the National Army for the protection and defense of the territory and the civilian population.
The foundations of what we know today as the National Army, began with Lieutenant Colonel Antonio Baraya, who founded and was in command of the institution, which gradually evolved to officially create the concept of the National Army, which we know today, with the constitution of 1886.
"It was founded on July 23, 1810, there was born through the Battalion of Volunteer Guards when the cry for independence was given on July 20, 1810, and 3 days later our institution was born," explained Lieutenant Gustavo Arango, historian of the National Army.
He also pointed out the importance of August 7, 1819 with the Battle of Boyacá Bridge, which allowed the consolidation of the independence process after a 9-year process that began in 1810.
