Every July 25 is celebrated the Day of the Chilean Drummer and Percussionist, a date created in honor of Gabriel Parra's birthday. The celebration was established in 2013.
This day was born in commemoration of the birth of Gabriel Parra Pizarro, legendary drummer of Los Jaivas and considered one of the best percussionists in the history of Chile. The outstanding musician died at the age of 40 due to a car accident on April 15, 1988.
"Gabriel Parra has the merit of having created a unique way of interpreting the rhythms of our roots," said drummer Patricio Salazar, one of the main promoters of the day's celebration, belonging to the former SCD board (2013).
