Today, May 3 is Holy Cross Day, also known as Bricklayer's Day. In addition to holding Mass in the Catholic Church, workers on construction sites celebrate this day with a meal, which in most cases (or traditionally) is paid for by the person in charge of the construction site.
The cross has become the patron saint of masons and stonemasons. These workers usually place a cross, decorated with natural or paper flowers, on top of the buildings or houses under construction on this day.
