On April 23 is celebrated in Colombia a profession that constantly works to strengthen the techniques, processes and tools for the selection, organization, preservation, dissemination and access to information and knowledge by anyone who needs it; this celebration is framed with the recognition of librarianship, within the national territory, as a profession, as established in Law 11 of 1979 of the Republic of Colombia. In addition, the celebration coincides with the International Book Day and has been approved by the Colombian Association of Librarians in 1958.
