Essentially non-existent before the advent of mechanized transport, roadkill is associated with increasing automobile speed in the early 20th century.
Road accident is most unwanted thing to happen to a road user, though they happen quite often. Though distraction while driving could be minor but it can cause major accidents.
630 cats are hit by cars every single day in the UK. 25% of these incidents will be fatal.
No animal deserves to be left in the road like rubbish following a road traffic accident.
That said, accidents do happen and too many drivers don’t stop to help.
The development of roads affects wildlife by altering and isolating habitat and populations, deterring the movement of wildlife, and resulting in extensive wildlife mortality.
Wildlife crossings allow animals to travel over or underneath roads. They are most widely used in Europe, but have also been installed in a few US locations and in parts of Western Canada.
Every year on our roads cars, motorcycles and lorries have accidents with over 1 million animals and 10 million birds, at an annual cost of £20 million. Deer accidents alone cause over 700 deaths and injuries every year.
