Theater in the United States is part of the old European theatrical tradition and has been heavily influenced by the British theater.
There are 3,533 live performance theaters in the US. Attendance rates at nonprofit theaters exceed 30 million people annually.
The central hub of the American theater scene is Manhattan, with its divisions of Broadway, Off-Broadway, and Off-Off-Broadway. Broadway runs for 33 whole miles, of which 18 miles are not even within New York City limits!
