Grandparent's Day is celebrated in Uruguay on June 19. It is celebrated every year on "June 19", because it coincides with the birth of the national hero José Gervasio Artigas.
José Gervasio Artigas, (born June 19, 1764, probably Montevideo [now in Uruguay]—died September 23, 1850, Ibiray, near Asunción, Paraguay), soldier and revolutionary leader who is regarded as the father of Uruguayan independence, although that goal was not attained until several years after he had been forced into exile.
Since then this date has been fixed in the calendar of all Uruguayans. It is a commemorative day dedicated to all grandparents, a tribute to those men and women who have given us so much since we were little.
Grandparents' Day is the ideal day to get together and spend the day with the family. It is a way of showing them how much we love them. It is also the time to give them a gift.
