The Balearic islands are an autonomous community of Spain just off the eastern coast of Spain, in the Mediterranean, offer a great destination for walking holidays. Mallorca is the largest island of the Balearics and is known for its seemingly endless sandy beaches, scenic coastline and a wide variety of countryside, from lush lowlands to majestic mountains. Ibiza might be famed as a party island but it also boasts many picturesque and peaceful spots, especially the south coast with its charming seaside villages.
Day of the Balearic Islands takes place each year on the 1st of March. It is marked by a public holiday to commemorate the signing of the Statute of Autonomy on March 1st, 1983 which granted autonomous status to the islands.
