National Memorial Day in France
National Memorial Day in France is held on December 5. In memory of those killed during the war in Algeria, the battles in Morocco and Tunisia. This event in the first decade of the month December is annual.

This day of tribute was established by decree n° 2003-925 of September 26, 2003. It was Jacques Chirac who, in 2003, established this "National Day of Homage to those who died for France during the Algerian War and the fighting in Morocco and Tunisia. On this date, a year earlier, he had inaugurated the Memorial located on the Quai Branly in Paris on which are inscribed the names of French soldiers who fell in Algeria - including after the theoretical "ceasefire" of March 19, 1962.
Two other days of commemoration are added to this "neutral" date of December 5. Since 2003, there has also been a "National Day of Homage to the Harkis and Other Members of the Supplementary Forces" on September 25. And since 2012, the "National Day of Remembrance and Recollection in Memory of Civilian and Military Victims of the Algerian War and the Fighting in Tunisia and Morocco", on March 19.
