It has been over 30 years since the murder of 14 young women at Polytechnique Montreal on December 6, 1989. This violent act of misogyny shook our country and led Parliament to designate December 6 as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women is a time to remember those who have experienced gender-based violence and have been lost. It is also a time for action. In order to achieve a Canada free of gender-based violence, we need everyone in this country to learn about gender-based violence, as well as their families and communities. We need to put the voices of survivors at the center of our actions and speak out against harmful behavior.
