26 February - For Pete's Sake Day
It was started by a former Lebanese radio talk show host, Pa., Tom Roy and his wife, Ruth. For Pete's Sake Day is celebrated 'minced oaths' — an offensive word or phrase is substituted by a polite phrase. Some examples of a minced oath are “gosh” for God, “heck” for hell, etc.
According to the Oxford English Dictionary, "for Pete's sake" was used more than a century ago and makes up similar expressions to "for the love of Pete" in 1906 and "in the name of Pete" in 1942.
According to some research, it is believed that this idiom “Pete’s Sake” was created to substitute a profane expression. It is created to substitute the phrase “for Christ’s sake” or “for God’s sake”, as in the middle ages this phrase is considered profane.
