Mushrooms begin life as fungal spores. Mushrooms are fungi and grow differently than fruits and vegetables. When spores germinate, they grow into a lacy, filament-like root network called mycelium. Compounds found in the mycelial extracts of certain mushroom species had been shown to support natural, innate immunity.
Mushrooms are delicious, fascinating, unique, dangerous and sometimes just plain weird. But, no matter how you feel about them, there’s no denying they play a significant role in our world and are vital for the ecosystem.
Greek people practiced mushroom as food for the first time. Bonnefons in 1650 invented for the first time mushroom cultivation.
As a reminder, September is National Mushroom Month in the United States and National Honey Month.
