Enchiladas originated in Mexico, where the practice of rolling tortillas around other food dates back at least to Maya times. The enchilada is one of the dishes mentioned in Mexico's first cookbook in 1831.
Hoagie was declared the “Official Sandwich of Philadelphia” in 1992. The most widely accepted story of hoagie's origin centers on an area of Philadelphia known as Hog Island, which was home to a shipyard during World War I (1914-1918).
