Where was Ben-Gurion born? Płońsk is a town in central Poland with 22,500 inhabitants. Situated at the Płonka river in the historic region of Mazovia, it is the seat of Płońsk County in the Masovian Voivodeship. It was Ben-Gurion who, on May 14, 1948, at Tel Aviv, delivered Israel's declaration of independence.
Following the war, Ben-Gurion served as Israel's first prime minister and minister of defense. As prime minister, he helped build state institutions, presiding over national projects aimed at the development of the country. He also oversaw the absorption of vast numbers of Jews from all over the world.
David Ben Gurion Memorial Day falls on the 6th Kislev, the Hebrew date of his death. It was designated to commemorate David Ben Gurion's historic achievements and contribution as a leader and a statesman. Its parallel purpose was to explore his heritage as a founder, nation-builder and architect of the modern state.
