The Feast of Our Lady of Conceição da Praia is a festival that takes place in Salvador in the state of Bahia in Brazil.
It is a religious manifestation of Catholic origin held since 1549, when the first governor-general of Brazil, Tomé de Sousa, began his devotion in the Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição da Praia, whose façade in lioz stone came from Portugal.
The festivities begin in late November, with a novena held every night at the main church in Salvador's Lower City. The celebration involves a mass and procession and, in parallel, the traditional feast takes place near the Mercado Modelo, with stalls selling typical foods and drinks, uniting the profane joy of Bahian people with sacred religious devotion.
